Author: Brian Ma (color01) If you're looking for an oil damper for your Mini-Z MR01, 015, or 02, this would be it. Of all the options available it is the only one made of plastic (for lower friction and lighter weight) that has ball joints on both ends. This translates into smooth, responsive and accurate damping action that really helps keep the rear end planted on fast cars. The included oil is 200wt and provides adequate damping for most situations. You can, of course, use different oil weights to adjust the feel of the damper.
Kyosho includes preload spacers and two springs to get you started with adjustments; personally I'd say they're not really necessary if you have the main spring of the suspension -- the T/H-shaped flex plate -- tuned properly.
One thing to keep in mind, however, is that an oil damper can only dampen up/down suspension motion, not roll. The effect of this is that steering response is less affected by an oil damper than a disk damper (which damps roll and up/down motion). So choose wisely what type of damper you need for you and your car; if you decide to go with an oil damper this Kyosho damper should be high on your list of consideration.
